I’m probably among the last generation that can say I grew up watching cable. The kind of household I grew up in didn’t allow friendships outside of school, so the TV became my best friend. Saturday mornings spent glued to the screen sparked my love of animation, musicals, and storytelling.

As an immigrant child, you learn early that opportunity is earned. Eventually, that TV was traded for SAT prep, which got me into college. While that was an accomplishment, my Biology textbooks never filled my cup. The isolation of the 2020 pandemic helped me reinternalize that storytelling was an escape for me and my true calling. The stories that captivated me as a child and offered an escape from reality inspired me to create stories that could do the same for others.

After graduating with a Biology degree in 2021, I searched for my next step. A chance meeting with an actor at a bar led me to audition for theater roles I’d never had the opportunity to pursue. Eventually, I landed the lead role of Franco Wicks in the stage production of Superior Donuts. Bringing that character to life was exhilarating, but it also confirmed that I wanted to tell my own stories.

I packed up my life and left Florida for the first time to pursue an MFA in Screenwriting at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

As a first-generation American storyteller from Florida by way of Haiti, I draw on my culture and experiences to create stories rooted in connection, community, and belonging.
